I chose to study at QMUL because I have always wanted to live in London and experience the ‘London lifestyle’. It is by far the best city in the world because it is so diverse and vibrant. You could never get bored with all the markets, museums, broadway shows, cafes and pubs.

When I first arrived at QMUL, I was so excited by the thought of all the things I could see and do that I made my own check-list. I didn’t even get to finish everything in three months, which just goes to show how much there is to do in London! Some of my highlights include visiting the BBC, watching Book of Mormon on broadway, going to Portobello market in Notting Hill and drinking cocktails at Cahoots – an underground bar set in post-war, 40s Britain, in a ‘Disused Underground Station’.

QMUL is also very multicultural, which meant that I made friends from all over the world. It is also one of the only universities in London that has everything you could ever possibly need on one campus. I made friends through living in a flat in Fielden House – made up of nine people from England, North America, Jamaica, China and Russia. With me from Australia, we nearly had all the continents covered! I loved living on campus because everything was just a short walk away, including ‘Drapers’, the college bar, which was only a short stumble home.

The more I got to know East London, the more I loved it. The Columbia Road Flower Market was one of the prettiest places I had ever visited with all of its colourful flower stalls. Another thing I loved was that QMUL was right on the Regent’s Canal and only a short walk to Victoria Park – coming from Australia the perfectly manicured gardens and large oak trees were quite different to the Australian bush! Plus East London is great for foodies – my friends and I frequently visited F&G Cafe on Mile End Road.

I would strongly recommend studying at QMUL as I could not speak more highly of the staff and students. Studying abroad really is a lifetime experience that you will never forget, and what better city to do it in than London!
